Pad preparation for water tanks is very important for the longevity of your water tank.  An uneven and loose surface for an Aquaplate or Stainless Steel tank will cause weak support on some or all areas of the base of the tank.  This weak support will cause the base of the tank to move and the seal to crack, or the plastic to break.

Types of Pads

There are four main options for pad material, including a stand, a crusher dust base, concrete pavers, or a concrete base.  Regardless of the material, the base needs to be compact and level in the range of +/- 1.5 degrees.

Where possible we will always recommend a concrete pad, especially for Aquaplate and Stainless Steel tanks.  Concrete pads are necessary for slimline water tanks, regardless of if they are polyethylene or steel.

Round Water Tanks

For round water tanks we recommend a crusher dust base with a timber border if a concrete base is not possible.  The crusher dust base must be professionally levelled and compacted to +/- 1.5 degrees so as to avoid sunken depressions and an uneven surface that won’t support the water tank.  The crusher dust base must not have stones larger than a 5mm diameter, as they may puncture or compromise the structure of the tank.

Concrete Slabs

Concrete slabs must be at least 100mm thick and at least 25MPA and requires F62 mesh as the concrete.  Depending on the water tank you purchase, your concrete slab will be to withstand anywhere from approximately 600kg to 30,000kgs (30 tonnes).  In particular, concrete pads for water tanks should be 100mm longer and wider than the water tank, but we recommend this for all base materials.
